McNeese has 70 student athletes named to SLC commissioner's spring honor roll

July 3, 2008

McNeese State had 70 athletes named to the Southland Conference commissioner's spring academic honor roll.

Presented by Capital One Bank, the honor roll recognizes student-athletes who competed in league championship sports during the spring semester and maintained a 3.0 grade point average while enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours.

"Congratulations to all of those student athletes that made the Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll list. This is a tremendous accomplishment," said McNeese athletic director Tommy McClelland.

"This is a testament to all of those student athletes that made the choice to work hard and were determined to be successful in the classroom." "Like in everything, success starts at the top. Our coaches have made academics a priority here at McNeese and we are seeing the results."

A total of 798 student-athletes were recognized by the conference.

The McNeese women's golf team lead all of the university squads by having all six members named to the team.

Otherwide for McNeese, baseball had 21 named to the honor roll, men's golf four, softball nine, tennis three, men's track 10, women's track 11, women's basketball four and men's basketball two.

Athletes in the fall sports (football, soccer, volleyball, cross country) were honored back in the fall.
