Cowboys finish seventh and Cowgirls ninth in Southland Conference track and field championship meet

May 11, 2008

HUNTSVILLE, TX - The runners claimed most of the points for McNeese State during the final day of the Southland Conference track and field championship meet on Sunday.

Jordan Neil drew the top finish as he placed third for the Cowboys in the men's 1500 meter run while teammate Stephen Scullion placed fourth in the same event and Michael Dyer finished fourth in the 800 meters.

That was all of the scoring for the Cowboys on the final day.

Amy Guinn ran fifth in the women's 1500 meters and was eighth in the 5000 meters while Christi McRae finished fourth in the 400 meters. The only other points for the Cowgirls came from DeAnn Washington with a fifth place in the discus and from Julie Buller with an eighth in the pole vault.

All told, the Cowboys scored 63 points, one shy of last year's production and they finished one more place down the ladder in seventh place. The Cowgirls outdid their performance from last year totaling 39 points but wound up in the same team finish, ninth place.

UTSA won the men's title with 138 1/2 points and was followed by Southeastern Louisiana with 129, UT Arlington 106, Sam Houston State 86, Stephen F. Austin 83 1/2, Texas State 75, McNeese 63, TAM-Corpus Christi 60, Lamar 38 and Northwestern State 35.
