Cowboys in fourth place, Cowgirls in sixth place as SLC track and field meet begins final day

Huntsville, TX - McNeese State's men's track and field team were in fourth place and the Cowgirls were in sixth place after the second day of the Southland Conference championship meet here Saturday.

The Cowboys had scored 47 points to trail leader Southeastern Louisiana (65 points), UTSA (51 1/2 points) and Stephen F. Austin (48 1/2 points). The Cowgirls had produced 24 points.

Leading McNeese during Saturday's final events were Lindsay Brooks, John Jamail and Marcus Brown.

Brooks produced a silver medal with a second place finish in the women's high jump by going 5-7.

Jamail finished third in the men's shot put with a toss of 55-3 3/4 and Brown placed fourth in the men's long jump with a leap of 24-2 1/4.

Also scoring points for the Cowgirls in a final event on Saturday was DeAnn Washington with a fifth place in the shot put at 42 - 2 3/4.

For the Cowboys, Stephen Scullion finished fifth in the steeplechase at 9:38.07 and Jacob Domingue placed sixth in the shot put at 50-4 1/2.

Also for the Cowboys, Timothy Guillory finished ninth in the high jump with a personal best of 6-8 3/4 and he was 16th in the long jump at 21-4 while Johnathan Koenck ran 11th in the steeplechase at 10:02.94.

John Jamail placed third in the shot put.


Leading the preliminary races for the Cowboys were Jordan Neil and Michael Dyer. Neil qualified for the finals in the 1500 meter run at 3:56.76 and for the 800 meters at 1:55.33. Dyer posted a 1:54.09 in qualifying for the 800 meter finals and Scullion ran 3:57.70 to qualify for the 1500 meter finals.

Christi McRae led the Cowgirl qualifiers for Sunday's finals with a 54.93 effort in the 400 meters while Amy Guinn qualified in the 1500 meters with a 4:51.51 clocking.

All of Sunday's races are finals and begin with field events at 1 p.m. and running events at 5 p.m.
